Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger looking. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, skin discoloration and scars — typically on the face.
A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures. Chemical peels can be done at different depths — light/medium or deep — depending on your desired results. Each type of chemical peel uses a different chemical solution.
Deeper chemical peels produce more-dramatic results, but also involve longer recovery times.

A chemical peel can be used to treat various skin problems. Depending on the issues you're addressing with the procedure, you'll choose a chemical peel in one of three depths:
- LEVEL 1 - Glycolic / Salicylic Peel A light / medium chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin (epidermis). It can be used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and dryness. You might have a light chemical peel as often as every two to five weeks — depending on your desired results. It can treat wrinkles, acne scars and uneven skin tone.
- LEVEL 2 - The Perfect Derma Peel. The Perfect Derma Peel will reduce or eliminate hyper pigmentation, sun damage and Melasma. It will control Acne and reduce Acne Scars. In addition, it will help erase fine lines and wrinkles, reduce enlarged pores and build collagen and elastin for a healthier, firmer complexion. The overall tone, texture and clarity of the skin will be improved. We use only the real deal with this line... learn more here at https://www.theperfectdermapeel.com/faq/
Risks
A chemical peel can cause various side effects, including:
Level 1 Chemical peels can't decrease pore size or eliminate deep scars or wrinkles. You need a Level 2 TCA peel such as The Perfect Derma Peel for this.
A chemical peel isn't for everyone. Your doctor might caution against a chemical peel or certain types of chemical peels if you:
A chemical peel can cause various side effects, including:
- Redness. Normal healing from a chemical peel involves redness of the treated skin. After a medium or deep chemical peel, redness might last for several months.
- Scarring. Rarely, a chemical peel can cause scarring — typically on the lower part of the face. Antibiotics and steroid medications can be used to soften the appearance of these scars.
- Changes in skin color. A chemical peel can cause treated skin to become darker than normal (hyperpigmentation) or lighter than normal (hypopigmentation). Hyperpigmentation is more common after superficial peels, while hypopigmentation is more common after a deep peel. Changes in skin color are more common in people who have darker skin. These Changes are usually a result of underlying melasma / sun damaged skin cells which may require additional treatments such as microneedling / dermaplanning to correct.
- Infection. A chemical peel can cause a flare-up of the herpes virus — the virus that causes cold sores. Rarely, a chemical peel can lead to a bacterial or fungal infection.
- Heart, kidney or liver damage. A deep chemical peel uses carbolic acid (phenol), which can damage the heart muscle and cause the heart to beat irregularly. Phenol can also harm the kidneys and liver. To limit exposure to phenol, a deep chemical peel is done in portions at 10- to 20-minute intervals.

A chemical peel isn't for everyone. Your doctor might caution against a chemical peel or certain types of chemical peels if you:
- Have taken the acne medication isotretinoin (Amnesteem, Claravis, others) in the past six months
- Have a dark complexion [Perfect Derma Peels works on this skin type]
- Have a personal history of ridged areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue (keloids)
- Have abnormal skin pigmentation
- Have a history of frequent or severe outbreaks of cold sores
Peel Treatment - How Many Peels Will I Need?
Acne: Mild acne will see a nice clearing of the skin after just one peel. However, some people will benefit further from a series of peels. 3 peels spaced 3-4 months apart and 2 peels per year to maintain results. We also strongly recommend a home care routine with The Perfect A and The Perfect C, along with a daily SPF 30.
Moderate to severe acne, hormonal, or cystic acne: A series of 3 peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then 2 peels per year to maintain results. CLEAR Booster recommended for acne related peels.
Hyperpigmentation: People with a few spots often see excellent reduction in pigmentation with just one peel. However, for some the pigment may appear slightly darker after the first peel, for the best results a series of peels, spaced 4 weeks apart, then 2 peels per year to maintain result. It is strongly recommended to use the Perfect B Brightening Complex to maintain results as well. People with melasma can be a challenge and adding a Plus Plus booster (with hydroquinone) to the peel is recommended.
Mature/Aging Skin: Age 35 and up a series of three peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart. For those with thick resilient skin, the Plus booster provides a deeper, stronger peel. Mature skin will also benefit from The Perfect A, applied to the face and neck 2-5 nights per week. Body Areas: The Perfect Derma Peel is an exceptional peel for the body and can be used on the following areas:
• Chest
• Back
• Arms/hands
• Legs/feet
• Buttocks
• Stomach/hips
• Bikini line
Peeling the body does require a bigger commitment than the face/neck. Perfect Derma must be used during the peel process. Body areas tend to peel more slowly, and peeling can last 2-3 weeks. Home use The Perfect A and The Perfect B is essential during the peel process.
VI Peels Acne: Mild acne will see a nice clearing of the skin after just one peel with the VI Peel Original, however, some people will benefit further from a series of peels. 3-4 peels spaced 3-4 months apart for the optimal results.

STAGES OF HEALING - What to expect...
After the procedure
After a chemical peel of any depth, follow your directions for cleansing, moisturizing and applying protective ointments to your skin.
After a LEVEL 1 chemical peel - treated skin will be red, dry and mildly irritated — although these effects might be less noticeable with each repeat treatment. Your doctor might apply a protective ointment, such as petroleum jelly, to soothe the area.
Treated areas take about one to seven days to heal after a light chemical peel. New skin might temporarily be lighter or darker than normal.
After a LEVEL 2 chemical peel- treated skin will be red, tight and swollen. You'll feel stinging. Your doctor might apply a protective ointment, such as petroleum jelly, to soothe the area.
Use ice packs or the breeze from a fan for comfort. Over-the-counter pain-relieving medication, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve, others), may help reduce any discomfort. You'll likely schedule a checkup soon after your treatment so that your doctor can monitor your healing.
As swelling decreases, treated skin will begin to form a crust and might darken or develop brown blotches. Treated areas take about seven to 14 days to heal after a medium chemical peel, but redness might last for months.
